However, faithful appearance repro duction is challenging, especially for complex phenomena, such as gloss. I n most cases, the view-dependent nature of gloss and the range of luminanc e values required for reproducing glossy materials exceeds the current cap abilities of display devices. As a result, appearance reproduction poses s ignificant problems even with accurately rendered images. This paper studi es the gap between the gloss perceived from real-world objects and their d igital counterparts. Based on the psychophysical experiments on a wide ran ge of 3D printed samples and their photographs, we derive a gloss consiste ncy model that accounts for the influence of geometry, illumination, and t he display's brightness to predict the change in gloss appearance due to t he display limitations. Our evaluation experiments demonstrate that using the prediction to correct material parameters in a rendering system improv es the match of gloss appearance between real objects and their visualizat ion on a display device.\n\nRegistration Category: FULL ACCESS, EXPERIENCE PLUS ACCESS, EXPERIENCE ACCESS, TRADE EXHIBITOR\n\nLanguage: ENGLISH\n\nF ormat: IN-PERSON URL:https://sa2022.siggraph.org/en/full-program/?id=papers_401&sess=sess15 3 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
