Biography
Ming Lin assumed the position of Elizabeth Stevinson Iribe Chair of Computer Science with a joint appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) in January 2018. She is currently a University Distinguished Professor, Dr. Barry Mersky and Capital One Endowed Professor. She was previously a Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Ph.D and M.S in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Her research interests include Multi-Agent Modeling, Multiscale Simulation, Physically-based and Geometric Modeling, Virtual Environments, Robotics, Haptic Rendering, Audio Display, and Computer Graphics. She has won several awards including IEEE Technical Achievement Award in VR and several Best Paper Awards (& Honorable Mentioning) in AAMAS 2010, ACM SMA 2003, Eurograhics 1999 and 2002, IEEE ICRA 2008, IEEE VR 2005, 2013 and 2016, VRST 2007, and IEEE ICRA 2018 Test-of-Time Award Finalist.
