Creating a Short, Independent, Animated Film in the Midst of a Pandemic & Job Transition
DescriptionThis talk will discuss strategies for creating a short, animated film, in the midst of unprecedented change. During production on her film, Lock the Gate, Sarah Galasso transitioned from teaching 2D and 3D animation in an established BFA in Animation program to teaching game design and development courses within a BA in Digital Media Arts program at a new and unfamiliar college. Sarah was able to successfully balance full time teaching during a pandemic, developing new course content, finding grant funding for her original music score, completing freelance animation projects for her clients at her company www.augustproductions.com, and finding time to complete her film. The bulk of the film was produced between February and May of 2022. This is the first independent animation that Sarah has produced since graduating with her MFA in Computer Animation from the Rochester Institute of Technology, in 2000.
